An Evening With Il Divo

Well, the time had come. We went to Vegas and saw Il Divo. I first heard about them while I was in Canada on our dance tour with BYU-I. Naturally being a music person and not knowing what was being played at our host family's house, I asked and the daughter just went nuts. She, being 15, drooled over how incredibly good looking these guys are. I recognized the song but it was in Spanish. Since I am not fluent in Spanish I asked to see the cd case. I was right!! It was Toni Braxton's, "Unbreak my Heart". (I was always good at 'name that tune') It was absolutely gorgeous! It had an opera sound but it wasn't full blown opera. That was back in 2005. So now in 2009 I have all 4 of their cds and they are a constant ambiance, so to speak, in our home.
This was a gift from Steve. It has been so wonderful to have someone support you, quite literally, in a lifetime goal. I always knew I wanted to go to college and music was always a love of mine. Steve has put off his education so I could finish. By the time we figured out marriage and schooling, it was better for us to stay here and have me finish. I was into the program far enough all ready that I would've lost more than half my credits if I transferred to were Steve would be going. But now they have a program that is more designed for what Steve wants to do. So we'll be in Rexburg for the next 4 years or so.
Il Divo was at the Mandalay Bay's Events Center. It seat 12,000 and is about the same look at the Energy Solutions Center (AKA Delta Center) in SLC. It just has one less balcony around the top. We were sitting 20 feet from the stage. NOT JOKING!!! I was just in awe the entire time. It's one thing to hear them sing on a recording but then to see them live was indescribable. So each time we can go I AM GOING. We were third row from the floor. Then they had seats on the floor but those were like $400+. Steve almost got tickets so we could meet them but we would've spent well over a $1,000. So we decided to have food in our house for the next three years instead. Steve and I always argue about opera. I love hard core, fat lady singing opera and he could care less. This is such a wonderful cross over because we both love it!! Classical technique using pop songs. FANTASTIC!! We got these neck passes but they didn't get us anywhere. We even asked the usher if we were supposed to go through the VIP line and he had a hard time not laughing at us. We also got 2 programs and 2 CD cases with their logo on them. We gave one program to Steve's co-worker who came to see them, too. The other CD case I am going to give to my mom.

Steve also booked an incredible suite for the weekend. It is a Jacuzzi tub. It was so fun!

Our room. We were room number 19101. 19th floor room 101.

The bathroom always has two sinks in these amazing suites. It also had a plasma screen. We were surprised at how good the sound was. They even had Paul Mitchell shampoos to use. They had a salon down by the pool, too.

This bed was incredible!! We slept so well. It was funny because I told Steve that these two nights were the best sleep I'd had in like 5 weeks. A True California Queen.
It definitely had a modern feel. The couch on the right was square and not comfortable.
Then we went to Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. LOVED IT!! Steve doesn't read the books so the Half Blood Prince surprised him. He kept thinking Harry or Dumbledor. Oh, no!! Ha ha!! We went to Wayne Brady and totally died!! He is the black guy on 'whose line is it anyway?'. His show was just like that one. He then did some songs from his new album. He has been nominated for a grammy all ready with only 3 months on the market! It was a fantastic weekend and we even got to rent a convertible. I am so thankful for Steve and his desire to do nice things for me. A big thanks to Steve's parents for watching our kids over the weekend.

  1. LOVE Las Vegas! It's so fun that they pack so much cool stuff into one street. =) Richard is slightly jealous that you got to have so much fun in his hometown! He always told me that when he got straight A's he would go to a show. My cousin is a cop on the strip, you probably saw him on his bike. =) Although, hopefully he didn't need to come see you for anything! haha. Anyway, you guys are fun and I'm glad you got to have a perfect weekend away. All Mommy's need that... if our ward budget could afford it, I would make it apart of my calling to book them all weekends away! =)
